Leo et Ellen forment un couple heureux dans leur luxueux appartement new-yorkais, entouré de Jackie, leur fillette de 8 ans, et Gloria, leur gouvernante philippine. Leo a fondé avec succès une entreprise Internet et mène une vie trépidante lui amenant des décisions importantes à prendre, mais aussi argent et gloire. Ellen est chirurgienne et a pour but personnel de sauver la vie d’un maximum de personnes. La fillette passe la majeure partie de son temps avec la gouvernante et cette situation ne satisfait plus Ellen. Leo quant à lui prend conscience, lors d’un voyage d’affaire,  que sa vie doit changer. Cette décision aura de lourdes conséquences pour l’avenir de la famille.
