Martin, DJ Ickarus, de retour après une tournée épuisante, essaie de finir son nouvel album, avant de prendre des vacances avec sa copine. Tout va bien. Sauf que Martin a un problème avec la drogue. Après un mauvais trip, Martin est admis dans un hôpital psychiatrique. Il devient ingérable et tout le monde l’abandonne: sa copine, son label,... Martin doit remettre sa vie en ordre (et sa musique)... Acteur principal Kalkbrenner est DJ lui-même et la bande sonore est presque entièrement de sa main. La bande sonore reprend l'écoute subjective de Martin qui est constamment à la recherche de nouveaux sons dans son environnement. Le film montre un beau portrait du milieu de la nuit de Berlin. Bien que le film reprend des thèmes trop souvent associés aux artistes (le génie, la folie, l’autodestruction, l'isolation), il est intéressant de les réexaminer dans le contexte de la vie d'un DJ contemporain à Berlin sur des rythmes de musique techno.

Martin, DJ Ickarus, net terug van een vermoeiende tournee, probeert zijn volgende plaat af te werken om daarna op vakantie met zijn vriendin te gaan. Alles gaat goed. Behalve dat Martin een drugsprobleem heeft. Na een slechte trip wordt Martin opgenomen in een psychiatrisch ziekenhuis. Hij wordt onhandelbaar en iedereen laat hem in de steek: zijn vriendin, zijn label,… Martin moet proberen zijn leven (en zijn muziek) weer op orde te krijgen… Hoofdacteur Paul Kalkbrenner is zelf DJ, de soundtrack is bijna volledig van zijn hand. Het is boeiend hoe de geluidsband de subjectieve luisterervaring van Martin vorm geeft, die voortdurend op zoek is naar nieuwe geluiden in zijn omgeving. De toeschouwer krijgt een mooi portret van het Berlijnse uitgaansleven. Alhoewel de film overbekende thema’s over kunstenaars hanteert (genie, waanzin, zelfdestructie, isolatie), is het interessant deze thema’s te behandelen in de context van het leven van een DJ in Berlijn (op de beats van techno-muziek).

Martin, DJ Ickarus, just back from an exhausting tour, tries to finish the next album before leaving on holiday with his girlfriend. Everything goes well in his life. Except that Martin has a drug addiction. After a bad trip, Martin is taken to a psychiatric hospital. He becomes unmanageable and everyone leaves him: his girlfriend, his label... Now Martin has to try to get his life (and music) back in order... Main actor Paul Kalkbrenner, a DJ himself, composed almost the entire soundtrack. It is fascinating how the soundtrack recreates the DJ’s subjective listening experience, Martin is constantly looking for new sounds in his environment. The spectator gets a good impression of the Berlin nightlife. Although the film treats themes often associated with artists (genius, madness, self-destruction, isolation), it’s interesting to reexamine these themes in the context of a DJ’s life in Berlin (on the beats of techno music).
