THE OFFICIAL FESTIVAL JURY
Every year, the jury hosts a Belgian duo. After Dominique Deruddere & Bouli Lanners in 2005, Fabrice du Welz & Fien Troch in 2006, Kris Cuppens & Marie Kremer in 2007, Mathieu Donck & Marie Vinck in 2008, Laura Verlinden & Taylan Barman in 2009, Marie Gillain and Christophe Van Rompaey will assure the Belgian presence in the jury. They will be joined by Annelise Hesme, Gérard Krawczyk, David Moreau and Karim Saleh.
Marie Gillain

Nominated for the César for Mon père, ce héros and for L’Appât, she seduced Gérard Depardieu, Gérard Lauzier, Jacques Doillon, Marian Handwerker, Bertrand Tavernier, the Taviani brothers, Pierre Jolivet, Danis Tanovic, Jean-Paul Salomé… And us.
Annelise Hesme
The Hesme’s have cinema in their blood. Neither Clothilde nor Elodie beg to differ. Even their sister Annelise doesn’t, who has starred in Tanguy by Chatiliez, Fauteuils d’orchestre by Danièle Thompson, Paris by Klapisch and even in Alexander by Oliver Stone. This year Stefan Libersky directed her in En chantier, monsieur Tanner.
Gérard Krawczyk
The French Gérard Krawczyk isn’t a director easily to be classified. After having worked with Virginie Ledoyen (Héroïnes), he directed the films Taxi 2, Taxi 3 and Taxi 4. He then reunited Penélope Cruz and Vincent Perez in the remake of Fanfan the Tulip, before tackling Bronzés dans l’ Auberge rouge, a remake of Claude Autant-Lara's film. Once in a while, Gérard Krawczyk should also find the time to take it slow… that is, after our festival.
David Moreau
In 2006, the French David Moreau co-directed Ils with his friend Xavier Palud, a terrific exercise in fear, which has nonetheless drawn the attention from the United States! It is there, that he directs in 2007 the remake of The Eye, starring Jessica Alba… A defender of the genre cinema, he dared bathe the French cinema in horror, and as we, at the Brussels Festival, love the bold people… Welcome David!

First film, first success, talent just doesn’t wait for age to come! The Cannes Festival got it right choosing Moscow, Belgium, Christophe Van Rompaey’s first feature, for the Semaine Internationale de la Critique. Our fellow countryman shows, with force as well as with sensibility, that a small production can give birth to a great film. A lesson, which he will share with us...
